Staff Appreciation Day

Today was staff appreciation day. It was held down at the fountains near the Cullen buildings. The food was ok but the day was beautiful. I do love the campus.

Graduation

Tonight was graduation for the College. It is getting a little strange the longer I work here to have this constant stream of new kids go through the college and then finish and leave. It does help to remind you why we work at a university but there are always a few that you begin to get attached to and that you will miss when they leave. This year it is Vinh Trinh. He will be working for me over this summer but after that he will be moving on and entering the "real world". He has worked for me over the last 3 - 4 years and I have seen him progress over that time. Congratulations Vinh we will miss you after you are gone.

Bert is leaving

Well today I found out that Bert Mikosh has accepted a new position in the Medical District. I will miss him at the office but I hope that everything works out for the best for him and his recently larger family. Obviously I also hope that I can find someone who I will enjoy as much and will add similar talents to our group. We will miss you Bert.

ITEC Houston 2005

Today we went to the ITEC Houston 2005 conference. It was much smaller than I expected but we did get to talk to several vendors about possible new products and services we might want to look into for the future.

I also found out that the university is no longer going to charge for using the TSM backup system. This should allow me to much better support our servers and any faculty who want to have thier critical data backed up. YEAH!!!

Leadership Training

Well this morning I have one more of my Leadership and Management training courses. It is about Coaching and Delegation Strategies for Commitment and Performance. Hopefully it will help me do a better job managing my staff and aid in making my group feel more successful.

Eastside Village

Today several of my staff and I went to the Eastside University Village Community Learning Center and helped setup new computers. We were brought in by Dr. Betty Roberts from the University of Houston to assist with the setup of 42 new desktop computers and 1 Windows 2003 Server donated by HP. Also invloved was SBC who helped by installing a T1 line for internet access and Technology for All who configured the network and provided a more robust firewall device. Fun was had by all and after a full day we managed to get the computers up and running so that the center is ready for classes on Monday.
